ABOUT THE COURSE
The Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Course, developed by the Southern African HIV Clinicians Society (SAHCS), is a comprehensive, clinically focused training programme for doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. It is designed to strengthen knowledge and skills in STI prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and integration with HIV and broader sexual and reproductive health services.
The course reflects the 2018 South African National Department of Health (NDoH) STI, the 2022 SAHCS STI and the 2024 SAHCS Syphilis guidelines. It also includes international guidance from the World Health Organization, ensuring leaners understand both local and global best practices.
The programme also emphasises the role of STI management in preventing HIV transmission, reducing antimicrobial resistance, addressing key populations, and supporting universal health coverage through rights-based, integrated care.

COURSE STRUCTURE
The course is comprised of 10 structured modules and a final assessment. Each module combines evidence-based content and practical applications.

The course is accredited for 10 Clinical + 2 Ethics points (total 12 CPD points) subject to completion of the course and a 70% and above pass mark on the in-module MCQs and the final assessment.
DURATION
This online course will typically take 12 hours to complete.
Once registered on the course, you will have access to the course for a period of 6 months and can return to it at any time during that period. The course is self-paced, consisting of presentations that you can work through at you own time.
